Election season is upon us here in America, and the race is on for our next President, senators, leaders, governors, and the like. You may also be experiencing elections in your part of the world as individuals race to be elected to positions of power.

These seasons are difficult for us as we pray and hope the "right" person gets elected, and the person for the job gets into office. But if we aren't careful, we will find ourselves putting all of our faith and hope in an individual instead of in the King of the universe.

This month, as we start Part Ten in our Attributes of God series, I chose to study THE SOVEREIGN GOD as a reminder that El Elyon, the Sovereign God, sits on the throne no matter who is elected into office. This study focuses us on the Kingdom of Heaven and not on the kingdoms of this world.

While it is Scriptural to obey our elected officials (Romans 13:1-2), it is crucial always to remember that God is God, and He is Most High over all the earth. (Psalm 97:9)

This month, we come to Part Ten in our Attributes of God Series as we study
THE SOVEREIGN GOD.

THE Sovereignty OF GOd.

God's sovereignty means that He is supreme over all of His creatures. He is the Most High God, and there is none above Him. “Divine sovereignty means that God is God in fact, as well as in name, that He is on the Throne of the universe, directing all things, working all things ‘after the counsel of His own will’." (Ephesians 1:11) - A.W. Pink

His counsel will stand, and He will do His pleasure. (Isaiah 46:10)

God is God.
He is in control.
He balances times and seasons.
He establishes kings and takes them down.
He controls stars, planets, and orbits.
He tells the ocean in its place.
He knows the numbers of hairs on your head.
He designed every single minute of every day of your life.
He is King of kings.
He is Lord of lords.
He is El Elyon . . . The Most High God.

"There is no attribute more comforting to His children than that of God's Sovereignty. Under the most adverse circumstances, in the most severe trials, they believe that Sovereignty has ordained their afflictions, that Sovereignty overrules them, and that Sovereignty will sanctify them all.

There is nothing for which the children ought more earnestly to contend than the doctrine of their Master over all creation—the Kingship of God over all the works of His own hands—the Throne of God and His right to sit upon that Throne.

On the other hand, there is no doctrine more hated by worldings, as the great, stupendous, but yet most certain doctrine of the Sovereignty of the infinite Jehovah.

Men will allow God to be everywhere except on His throne.

They will allow Him to be in His workshop to fashion worlds and make stars. They will allow Him to be in His almonry to dispense His alms and bestow His bounties. They will allow Him to sustain the earth and bear up the pillars thereof, or light the lamps of heaven, or rule the waves of the ever-moving ocean; but when God ascends His throne, His creatures then gnash their teeth.

And we proclaim an enthroned God, and His right to do as He wills with His own, to dispose of His creatures as He thinks well, without consulting them in the matter; then it is that we are hissed and execrated, and then it is that men turn a deaf ear to us, for God on His throne is not the God they love. But it is God upon the throne that we love to preach. It is God upon His throne whom we trust." - Charles Spurgeon.

As we embark on this journey through the Scriptures, I hope we fall more in love with our Sovereign God. I pray that we get excited to preach about our God, who is seated on the Throne of the universe and the throne of our hearts.

He is sovereign and free to do all that He wills. (Psalm 135:6)
The Most High God and no one and nothing can successfully oppose Him. (Job 42:2)
He is the King of kings and the maker and puller down of earthly kingdoms. (Psalm 92:10)
He is the Lord of the heavens and Lord of the earth. (Deuteronomy 4:39)
He is seated on The Throne, a symbol of His sovereignty. (Exodus 17:16)
He is sovereign over all of His creation. (Revelation 4:11)
He is sovereign over all of our lives; over all human life. (1 Chronicles 29:12)
He is sovereign over the smallest details of life. (Matthew 10:29-30)
He is sovereign in the salvation of His people (1 Corinthians 1:30)
El Elyon is supreme over all other gods. (Psalm 95:3)
He is sovereign over world history (Proverbs 21:1)
And Satan is defeated through God's sovereign purposes and the work of Jesus Christ! (Colossians 2:15)

Jesus called us to be "wise as serpents and gentle as doves" in this world. (Matthew 10:16) We can do this by paying attention to our leaders, their beliefs, our elections, and our governments, while still remembering that we are not of the world, but of a Kingdom that has no end. This brings incredible peace and security, My Friends.

Our leaders, while deserving respect, come and go. Their kingdoms rise, and their empires fall. I am so grateful that our allegiance isn't to the kingdom of this world, but to the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ; a Kingdom that will never fail.

"His government and its peace will never end.
He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the LORD of Heaven's Armies will make this happen!"
- Isaiah 9:7
