When I was a kid, I loved flipping to the back of my Bible to look at the maps. I would imagine what the land looked like and who the people were. I would look at the maps of Paul's journeys, outlining them with my finger and imagining his heroic trips to bring the Gospel to distant lands. As an adult, not much has changed. The more I read the Bible, the more intrigued I become by the culture, the people, the places, and the history.
My dream is to visit the Holy Land and walk where Jesus walked. Until then, I am grateful for the fantastic resources that bring us closer to the places, people, and culture of the Bible.
You can imagine how excited I was when I was contacted to review The CSB Holy Land Illustrated Bible. It is such a beautiful Bible, and I can't wait for you to see it! Plus, at the end of this post, we are doing a giveaway for this lovely Bible.
Before we get going, I want to let you know that I was provided a copy of this Bible from Lifeway Christian Resources and Holman Publishing in exchange for my review, but all of my thoughts and opinions are my own.

HOW CAN YOU USE THIS BIBLE?
I am so glad you asked! As many of you know, I homeschool Asher and we have been using The CSB Holy Land Illustrated Bible during our Bible Class. Asher is eleven and he has absolutely loved looking at the photos and how they connect with the words of Scripture. I think this is an excellent Bible for a pre-teen or teenager. I believe it will show them that God’s Word is alive, living, and active. It was then and it still is today. (Hebrews 4:12)
I would use this Bible along with my yearly Bible Reading Plan. In past years, I have used a study Bible with my reading plan and found myself reading the notes more than the Word itself. The CSB Holy Land Illustrated Bible has enough notes to give you background and book summaries without taking away from the text. The CSB translation is excellent and is easy to read. I think this Bible would be an excellent companion for your yearly reading plan.
If you are a lover of history and culture, this Bible will be right up your alley. I have been reading The Song of Songs and there is a fantastic article in The CSB Holy Land Illustrated Bible called, “Oils, Perfumes, and Cosmetics of the Ancient Near East.” When I read Song of Songs 4:14-15, I was brought into the Ancient Near East with a greater understanding of the herbs and spices Solomon used to describe his bride.
MY THOUGHTS
I think The CSB Holy Land Illustrated Bible is a fantastic resource. What I love most about the Bible is that it brings you right into The Holy Land. The images are full-color, bright, clear, and detailed. The maps pull at my heart as I recall my childhood days of thumbing through my Bible.
I enjoy reading the Bible without verse-by-verse study material. There are times when you want a deeper study using a study Bible or commentary, but there are other times you just need to read Scripture without distraction. This Bible is a great resource for this type of Bible reading. There are wonderful articles throughout for deeper instruction, great book introductions, and great Digging Deeper articles throughout.
I don’t see any negatives in this Bible, but there are a few things that may cause concern for some.
This is a larger Bible than most. I wouldn’t necessarily travel with this Bible or bring it to a Sunday service. It is heavy, but that’s because it is so full of great information.
Also, the pages are thin. So if you are looking to highlight or make notes, be sure to use a gel highlighter as the pages will bleed through.
I own a lot of Bibles, Friends, but this is one of the most beautiful Bible I own. When my son first saw the Bible he said, “MOMMA! That is so cool. There are pictures!”. The CSB Holy Land Illustrated Bible is a gorgeous Bible. I know you will love it, you will learn so much about The Holy Land, and you will bring a little bit of Jesus’ home into yours. 💛
