Does God Take Center Stage?

I started in the theater at twelve years old. I continued through high school and college eventually owning and operating my own non-profit community theater as an adult. It’s been a story-tellers life and I’ve loved telling stories through music, dance, art, and theater.

One of my favorite parts of the theater is standing off stage in the wings, watching the actors on stage. As I wait my turn, I delight in watching whoever I am performing with sing, dance, and act. When my cue is given, I enter the stage and it is my turn.
⠀⠀
And while that’s fine for the stage, isn’t that the way we treat God sometimes?

I grew up on the stage. As an actress, one of my favorite parts of the theater is standing off stage in the wings, watching the actors on stage. As I wait my turn, I delight in watching whoever I am performing with sing, dance, and act. When my cue…

So many “Christian” books out there are telling us to stop apologizing, to wash our faces, and to own our everyday. But aren’t they just saying the same thing? Let God wait while you “hustle”, and create a life your proud of. What about a life He’s proud of? What if all this washing and owning and apologizing is for nothing?

What if we are performing in our own little show only to hear God say, “I never attended.”?

Do you keep God waiting in the wings while you are center stage?
⠀⠀
We make Him wait in the wings while we act out our anxieties, our will, our frustrations, and our plan for our lives. And there He is, patiently waiting for us to relinquish the spotlight and give Him the glory. God is a gentleman. He won’t barge in. He stands at the door and knocks. He stands. Waiting for us to surrender the spotlight.

If we’d let go of center stage and we allowed God His rightful place in our lives, the Symphony of our lives would begin to come into unison with the Creator of our lives.

How do we let God take center stage?

• Ask for forgiveness. (1 John 1:9)
• Surrender your heart to the Lord. (Galatians 2:20 & Psalm 51)
• Invite Him into every thought, relationship, situation, and circumstance. (Revelation 3:20)
• Give Him authority and control. (1 Peter 5:7)
• Stop reading all the books looking for the answers and open your Bible! (Hebrews 4:12)
⠀⠀
Then watch Him shine - watch Him work - watch Him create a work of art out of your life!

WITH ALL MY HEART,
ERIKA MICHELLE
